The evening before my very first Christmas parade, my weekend meteorologist Sarah Fletcher was filling my head with exciting expectations! She explained how everyone in the area shows up for the fun, but more than anything it was an event that I was going to need to experience for myself to fully understand.
She was right! I showed up to the parade and was shocked to see the number of people waiting for the event to begin. Every one of those people had glow sticks in hand, santa hats, plenty of blankets, and an abundance of Christmas spirit!
This wasn’t my annual college homecoming parade, this was much different!
The KLTV mobile newsroom was appropriately decorated for the season and when the parade started, all of the anchors got to lead the way!
It didn’t hit me that people may actually recognize us as we walked passed them in the parade, so when I began hearing things being shouted like…
“We love you KLTV 7 news!”
“Watch y'all all the time!!”
“Merry Christmas, ____(insert anchor name)___!”
…my heart was jumping for joy!
Sometimes I think I was more excited than the viewers were! Their kindness was infectious!
Sarah and I had to laugh at the end of it all because our faces hurt from smiling so big for such an extended period of time!
The chilly weather, the lights that covered the beautiful downtown buildings, and the people who showered our team with an incredible love all catapulted me into the spirit of the season!
After tonight, I am looking forward to a very merry month!
